The book had its origins in the original production of               "Henry I" for which Lindsay acted as a historical advisor.

Over the next five years she researched extensively into the original sources - the great medieval chroniclers, such as Oderic Vitalis and William of Malemesbury.

The result is a very readable narrative history of King Henry, copiously illustrated in colour, with medieval artwork, maps and family trees.

The book was published to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the foundation of Reading Abbey.

It is the only book written specially for the people of Reading, focusing on Henry's relationship with the town.
